The Honoring Dakota Project (HDP) is a transformative initiative stewarded by Red Wing Arts that acknowledges and celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of the Dakota people on their ancestral homeland. Developed in true partnership with the Prairie Island Indian Community, the City of Red Wing, Goodhue County, and other collaborators, HDP fosters understanding, healing, and connection between Dakota and non-Dakota communities.
Recognizing the ongoing need to honor the Dakota people as vital members of the community, HDP uses arts and cultural exchange to uplift Dakota voices, heal relationships, and ensure their representation within the community. Through engagement, cultural events, and educational programs, the project creates a welcoming space for Dakota people to reconnect with their homeland and strengthens the shared heritage.
