2025 Fellow

Jasmine Fiddler is a Mnicoujou Lakota artist, enrolled in the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. She is a mother, daughter, granddaughter and sister, and she is passionate about the preservation of Lakota arts and lifeways. These are a staple in her artist practice. She works in the traditional artforms of her people such as beadwork, quillwork, dress making, jewelry making, and dance. Her apprenticeship in these mediums come from a lifetime of teachings instilled by generations of women, being passed on to her by her mother and grandmothers.

Growing up on the pow wow trail was also where her Lakota identity was instilled in her regalia, as a form of self-expression. Her beadwork and regalia making holds the stories passed down from many generations, which transcend beyond the level of craft. These ways of knowing are where Jasmine’s work comes from, and it is important for her to continue to contribute to her community. She works to preserve these teachings for her family going forward seven generations.
