Nicky Buck: Land, Plants, and Community

As Indigenous Peoples’ Day nears, join us with our friends at Winona State University (WSU) in welcoming Nicky Buck (Prairie Island Indian Community & Honoring Dakota Project)! On Wednesday, October 9, at 5pm, gather with Nicky at the Indigenous Learning Garden on the WSU campus as she guides us & gives a talk about land, plants, and community. Nicky is Bdewakantunwan Dakota, and her work focuses on plant medicines, food sovereignty, and environmental protection.

Through support for artists, culture bearers, artisans, and storytellers - alongside the local organizations that support them - the Spillway initiative at Art of the Rural works to create the conditions for engaged projects that honor diverse lived experience, deepen regional relationships, and build rural-urban networks of knowledge-sharing and exchange that will create opportunities for artists, culture bearers, and artisans to thrive & connect with new colleagues and audiences. We are grateful for this collaboration with Winona State University’s Indigenous Relations, Education, and Programming Committee and their support of Nicky’s visit.
