In 2023, the Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange (RUX) launched its Intercultural Microgrant program, funding 5 projects. This funding provides RUX’s experienced, capable alumni and member network with the support they need to try new ideas and solve old problems through short-term projects that foster dialogue, connection, or collaboration among Kentuckians from disparate backgrounds, identities, or experiences.
STATEWIDE / FRANKLIN - Lauren Calhoun & Michael George with Max Erskine, Ekknowledge, Aud, Jack Calhoun, Alexis Erskine, & Griffin Fletcher - Recording a bluegrass/hip-hop song with musicians from throughout Kentucky
WHITESBURG - Kyra Higgins & Robin Verson (Hill & Hollow Farm) - Silk flag dyeing and flag dancing workshop at Cowan Community Center
CAMPBELLSVILLE - Shaelyn Bishop, Bernard Clay, and Zoë Scott - Uncovering hidden histories of enslaved people buried in Clay Hill Memorial Forest
PADUCAH - Michelle Amos (The Little Loomhouse), Robin Verson (Hill & Hollow Farm), Lexie Millikan (Yeiser Art Center) - Learning about & getting hands-on with textiles at Yeiser Art Center
FRANKFORT - Bernard Clay & Emily Kicklighter - Cross-county high school students from Jefferson Co. & Estill Co. come together for a poetry slam at Kentucky State University
